Mining
Our operating mines are situated at Sanguem , South Goa. The
proved reserves of these mines are 1.15 million tons and about 1.60
million tons is probable. Exploration and geological studies are carried
out regularly to further discover and assess the reserves. We produce
about 150,000 to 200,000 metric tons of crude ore annually from these
mines which are spread over an area of about 168.718 hectares. For future
mining, two prospective areas are under exploration. One of these areas,
namely Uguem/Patiem Area is adjacent to the present mines operated by
us. The drilling operations to prove the extent and the quality of the
ore will also be commenced soon after formal prospecting licenses are
obtained for these areas. The second area known as Vantem, is situated
in North Goa district. This area is spread over 4 villages namely Vaguem,
Vatem, Poncem and Codiem. The total area of these mines are 240 hectares.
The preliminary studies have shown good surface indications. The total
possible reserves in these areas is expected to be in the range of 40
million tons.
